Home Visits

Doctor's bag

The doctor can attend to patient’s needs much more effectively in surgery. Home visits are for those who are genuinely housebound only and who have acute illness. Visits for children are extremely rarely required as the illness can be dealt with quicker and more efficiently in surgery. This has been our universal experience even in cases such as Meningitis.

If a home visit is essential please phone before 10:00 if possible. This reduces the possibility of the Dr having to re-attend an area where he has just carried out a visit to another patient.

Please advise the receptionist immediately if your call is an emergency, STAY CALM AND –GIVE THE NAME OF THE PATIENT, THE ADDRESS THAT THEY ARE CURRENTLY AT AND YOUR CONTACT TELEPHONE NUMBER (needed in case e.g. we need to ring you back or if GP unable to find location).

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
